24 Hour Crisis Hotline/Listening Line | Need to talk? (401) 272-4044 or (800) 365-4044
Every day, people, of all ages, face difficult problems in their lives.
Often times they believe no one cares or wants to listen.
At some point, anyone of any age and in any life situation can feel hopeless and alone and maybe have suicidal thoughts.
Sometimes, we all need someone to listen. Not judge. Not give advice. Just listen.
Our volunteers are here for you.
Since 1977, our historic mission has been suicide prevention but most people who call are not suicidal.
Who answers our lines? Volunteers trained in the international model of nonjudgmental listening called befriending.
We are not a licensed health or mental health agency. Our Listening Line does not replace professional medical, mental health, social service or pastoral care.
We are local philanthropy. Callers have access to free support, without regard to their health/mental health or their ability to pay.
You matter to The Samaritans. That’s why we volunteer.
We have no agenda other than to be kind to all who just need someone to listen.
